The Outdoor Flying Fox game project emerged from a collaboration with Environmental Services at City of Moreton Bay Council, aimed at improving educational engagement about flying foxes within schools and the broader community. This initiative effectively combines game design with environmental education, employing an interactive approach to convey vital ecological knowledge. In developing the project, the collaboration focused on creating an innovative educational tool that could communicate the significance of flying foxes within local ecosystems.
The primary educational objective was to craft a learning experience where participants could gain valuable insights into the habits and ecological roles of flying foxes. The game was specifically designed to educate players about the migration patterns, dietary preferences, and natural predators of these nocturnal animals, fostering a deeper understanding and respect for local wildlife.
The game's design incorporates a traditional roll & move board game format, with a map stretching across a 5m x 5m area, printed on durable canvas. Participants themselves become the game pieces, engaging physically by moving across an illustrated map of the Moreton Bay Region. This physical interaction enhances learning by creating a dynamic and interactive environment, with the robustness of the canvas ensuring that the educational tool can withstand repeated use, making it a sustainable resource for ongoing educational activities.
